The Company was founded in 1920 in Biggleswade by Ben Mantle. Over past years it has held franchises for Austin, Morris, Riley, Wolseley, Morgan, MG, Standard, Berkeley, Triumph and Rover. In 1953 Ben’s son Ian Mantle diversified and formed Mantles Caravans which became a significant caravan retailer, representing Sprite, Eccles, Fairholme, Swift, Bailey and Lunar amongst others. Mantles Caravans also became mobile home site operators in Baldock and Hitchin.
The core motor business, still situated on the same site in Biggleswade, evolved to include car or caravan dealerships in Bedford, Luton, Cambridge, Letchworth and Royston at varying times over the past 30 years. Now, representing the third generation, John Mantle (Ian’s son - pictured) heads up the family motor and property business, supported by a team of experienced professionals, with dealerships in Biggleswade and Royston.
More recently, the Company has diversified into ownership and letting of residential property in Cambridge as well as investment in The Delphi Club - an exclusive Bone Fishing Lodge on the island of Abaco in The Bahamas.
